Golden Prague

This unique guide to Prague of the 1860s–1880s presents the city’s transformation through the illustrations and texts published in the Czech picture magazines Zlatá Praha, Květy and Světozor. The reader not only finds the depictions of streets and buildings, but also the inhabitants of the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia. Many of the pictures illustrate their everyday life, either purposefully or unwittingly as well as annual ceremonies and feasts, and exceptional events related to various celebrations and funeral ceremonies. A special section is dedicated to disasters that affected the Prague inhabitants during the given period.
