Holy Cards

Holy cards represent a special source of knowledge of the religious life in Bohemia. Small devotional prints not only provide an insight into the gradual changes of religious ideas of the faithful population but also capture the changes of artistic styles from the High Baroque to Late Classicism and Biedermeier periods. The publication informs the reader about small devotional objects in Prague during the Baroque era as known from devotional prints. It describes the holy card production and printing in Prague during the first half of the 19th century and their censorship. It also lists the individuals who influenced the holy card production and trading.
